What is breast enlargement surgery?

Breast enlargement surgery is a procedure through which you can enlarge or reshape one or both of your breasts. Breast enlargement surgery is performed by placing implants under your breast through a small incision.

What improvements can breast enlargement surgery give?

Breast enlargement surgery is used to increase the size of your breasts using implants if you are unhappy with your current size. Breast enlargement can also correct size differences between your two breasts, and may also help to recover your breast size after pregnancy.

Who should not consider breast enlargement surgery?

The following women are not good candidates for breast enlargement:

  • Women with serious medical problems
  • Women who are currently pregnant or breast feeding
  • Women with unrealistic expectations of breast enlargement surgery
  • Women who perpetually gain and lose weight

Are there age restrictions for breast enlargement surgery?

Breast enlargement surgery is most often performed on women of all ages. Women under the age of 18 may not be candidates for breast enlargement because they may not yet be fully developed and may not be psychologically prepared for the changes as a result of the procedure.

What if I want to have children?

In most cases, you can still breast feed with breast implants, although you should not have breast enlargement surgery if you are currently pregnant.

How long does breast enlargement surgery take?

The breast enlargement procedure is usually completed in just over one hour.

Is breast enlargement surgery painful?

Depending on your personal threshold for pain, pain of varying intensity and duration may occur during and after your breast enlargement procedure. The pain experienced with breast enlargement surgery should not be any more severe than that from other surgical procedures.

What type of anesthesia is used during breast enlargement surgery?

Breast enlargement procedures typically utilize general anesthesia.

Will breast enlargement surgery affect the sensitivity of my nipples?

Sensitivity in your nipples is difficult to predict. In some cases, breast enlargement surgery makes the nipples more sensitive and in others, sensitivity is reduced.

Can I have a mammogram if I have breast implants?

Women with breast implants can undergo mammography and other similar techniques just the same as women with natural breasts. However, you must inform the mammography technologist about your implants so that he or she may get an accurate reading. Additional and different views are usually done in order to image as much of the breast as possible.

Will breast enlargement surgery stretch out my areolas?

The amount your areolas stretch depends on the size of your breast implants - the larger your breast implants, the more likely your areolas will stretch.
