Breast Reduction Consultation
At the initial breast reduction consultation, goals and expectations of the breast reduction surgery will be discussed. The breast reduction procedure will be explained in detail and those factors which influence the breast reduction surgery such as your age, the size and shape of your breasts and the tone of the breast skin will be reviewed. Different techniques for performing the breast reduction procedure and the location of the incisions will be discussed. A mammogram may be recommended preoperatively depending upon your age and family or personal history of breast disease.
Breast Reduction Procedure
Breast reduction mammaplasty may be performed in our accredited in-office surgical facility or in the hospital depending on the individual circumstances. An overnight stay is recommended for your safety, comfort and convalescence. Breast reduction surgery takes 3 to 4 hours and is performed under general anesthesia.
After Your Breast Reduction Surgery
A surgical bra and a light dressing are worn for one week following breast reduction surgery. Swelling and discoloration of your breasts generally subside after a few days. Limited activity is recommended for the first week after breast reduction surgery. You should be able to drive and return to work 1-2 weeks after surgery. Resumption of usual activities, including regular exercise, is possible 3 weeks following breast reduction surgery.
